We are a Central Florida family with a passion for animals.  Some of our particular interests are anatomy, herpetology (reptiles and amphibians) and marine biology (aquatic animals).  Among our household zoo resides breeding pairs of  tegus and geckos, so we offer babies for sale each year.

Classes are taught by Laura Roberts, an expert at teaching elementary and middle school science with 30 years of animal handling experience and 20 years of teaching experience.  Originally attending the University of Florida as an Animal Science major with an emphasis on pre-veterinary studies, she worked as a veterinary assistant and medical research assistant, volunteering in Equine Neonatology in the evenings. Later, she transferred to the University of Central Florida where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cardiopulmonary Sciences. After leaving healthcare, she used her science background to teach elementary and middle school science classes, discovering a true love.  She is currently enrolled in Whitefield Theological Seminary working toward her Masters degree in Christian Education, learning many ways to improve the methods for teaching science.  She has been trained as a Project Wild educator by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. She still works with FWC to remain permitted to own captive wildlife and volunteers with a tegu research team.  She has also volunteered with 4H and the Central Florida Zoo, always seeking more knowledge about nature to share with her students.  Laura is also a member of the Central Florida Herpetological Society, Association of Professional Wildlife Educators, and United States Association of Reptile Keepers. She is a contributing writing for Reptiles Magazine online and has been invited to speak on the topic of tegus.

Zoo Mom Science is a true family business.  Bruce and the girls help with the zoo, maintaining the animals and assisting during parties and classes. Field herping, science, and nature photography find their way into every family vacation, many family events, and much of the family’s daily living!

  1. Hello, i was interested in getting a Savannah monitor lizard in the future, and i was wondering if you had any advice or suggestions on materials i could use for their habitat, or meat i could feed them instead of rodents. Thanks!
